Luban stool
Around three years ago, a good friend of mine shared a video of a craftsman in China doing woodworking in the woods. Using very simple tools he crafted a brilliant folding stool out of a single slab of wood without dismembering the material completely. I watched it in awe and decided to replicate the same. A little research showed that this stool design among many others are centuries old and originally made by a widely respected man called Lu Ban. Nowadays these kinds of stools are made by woodworkers in most east Asian cultures that practice woodworking. The following photographs are taken by my friend, Somil, an excellent woodcarver and maker.
